abstract The present invention relates to photochromic materials comprising certain indeno-fused naphthopyrans. The indeno-fused naphthopyran has an amino group (such as a piperidino or morpholino group) bonded to the 6-position and a hydrogen or halogen group bonded to its 11-position (such as fluorine). The photochromic materials of the present invention may have a closed-form electromagnetic radiation absorption spectrum that is shifted towards longer wavelengths (eg, wavelengths greater than 390 nm) relative to comparable photochromic materials. The invention also relates to optical elements, such as spectacles, comprising a photochromic material according to the invention.
