There is provided a method for treating a malaria infection in an individual, in particular a drug-resistant species of Plasmodium, the method comprising administering to the individual in need of such treatment a composition comprising an extract, the The extract contains an effective amount of one or more antimalarial diterpene or triterpene compounds. Potent and effective extracts containing anti-malarial compounds can be derived from Luo Han Guo and Stevia leaves (including combinations thereof) for the purpose of treating and preventing malaria in an inexpensive manner from readily available commercial products. In one embodiment, the composition is administered orally in a solid or liquid ingestible form. |
