abstract The invention discloses a pharmaceutical composition for treating hepatic encephalopathy. The pharmaceutical composition is prepared by processing the following medicinal raw materials; semen euphorbiae, cortex phellodendri and penthorum chinense pursh which are in the weight ratio of (1-10):(1-10):(0.2-5). According to the pharmaceutical composition, cortex phellodendri has the functions of clearing away heat, drying dampness, and purging fire for removing toxin; penthorum chinense pursh has the advantages of inducing dieresis for removing edema, and semen euphorbiae has the effects of relieving edema, removing swelling, removing syndrome and killing pests. Through the combination of the three active ingredients, the pharmaceutical composition has the effects of clearing away heat, removing toxin, soothing the liver, removing jaundice, eliminating swelling and removing stasis, so that a root causing hepatic encephalopathy can be treated and the syndromes can be relieved. It is proved that the pharmaceutical composition achieves excellent effect when used for clinically treating hepatic encephalopathy.
