abstract The present embodiments provide prodrug compounds of formula I-XVII. The present invention also provides compositions, and methods of their use, wherein the compositions include a prodrug compound of Formula I-XVII that provides controlled release of an active agent. Such compositions can optionally provide a trypsin inhibitor that interacts with the enzyme that mediates the controlled release of an active agent from the prodrug to attenuate enzymatic cleavage of the prodrug.
