titleOfInvention | Continuous process for producing molten polycarbonate |
abstract | A method for producing polycarbonate by melt polymerization may comprise: (a) adding acetone, diaryl carbonate, and a dihydroxy compound to a melt polymerization unit, wherein the acetone is added to the melt polymerization unit as a mixture with the diaryl carbonate and/or the dihydroxy compound; (b) adding a catalyst to the melt polymerization unit, optionally without isolating acetone prior to adding the catalyst; and ( c) operating the melt polymerization unit under conditions such that the one or more diaryl carbonates and the one or more dihydroxy compounds; the dihydroxy compound and the diaryl carbonate The base ester reacts to produce a polycarbonate with the desired specifications, and a phenol by-product. |
