abstract The invention provides a surface modification method of porous alpha-aluminum oxide carrier used for a silver catalyst, wherein the silver catalyst is used for producing oxirane via ethylene oxidation. The surface modification method comprises following steps: step A, the porous alpha-aluminum oxide carrier is subjected to acid treatment, and is washed with water so as to remove acid; and step B, the porous alpha-aluminum oxide carrier is dried, is immersed into a solution containing barium, and preferably is immersed into a mixed solution containing barium and boron, and then the porous alpha-aluminum oxide carrier is collected and roasted so as to obtain the modified porous alpha-aluminum oxide carrier. After modification of the porous alpha-aluminum oxide carrier via the surface modification method, reaction temperature increasing speed of the corresponding silver catalyst is slowed, and activity and stability of the silver catalyst are improved significantly.
