The present invention relates to thiophene azocarboxylate dyes useful as toners, laundry care compositions comprising such dyes useful as toners, methods of preparing such dyes and laundry care compositions, and the use their methods. The aforementioned dyes contain formally charged moieties and are generally composed of at least two components: at least one chromophore component and at least one polymer component. Suitable chromophore components typically fluoresce blue, red, violet, or violet when exposed to ultraviolet light, or they can absorb light to reflect these same hues. Such dyes advantageously provide a toning effect, such as a whitening effect, to fabrics without building up over time and without causing undesirable bluish bleaching of treated fabrics. Such dyes are also generally stable to bleaches used in laundry care compositions. |
