The invention discloses a magnesium-based hydrogen storage material and a preparation method thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps: (1) preparing an Mg-Ce-Ni amorphous alloy by a quick cooling method; (2) crushing the amorphous alloy to obtain amorphous powder; (3) activating the amorphous alloy; (4) performing hydrogen absorbing and desorbing circulation on the composition, and performing passivation treatment; (5) oxidizing the composition to obtain an MgH2-Mg2NiH4-CeH2.73-CeO2 nano-crystal composition. According to the material disclosed by the invention, Mg2NiH4, CeH2.73 and CeO2 are all in-situ generated nano-crystal, and are not needed to be added by other mechanical methods. The preparation process is simple, short in time and low in energy consumption and cost; the dehydrogenation temperature is greatly reduced than that of MgH2, the dehydrogenation dynamic performance of the material can be remarkably improved, and the dehydrogenation performance of the material can be stably maintained after multiple circulations. |
