The present invention relates to reagents and methods for the beta-keto amide synthesis of a synthetic precursor to immunological adjuvant E6020. The present invention relates to a compound of formula (4) and a method for preparing the compound, wherein, R4 is in each occurrence independently a protecting group; R5 is in each occurrence independently a C1-C6 alkyl group, a C3-C6 alkenyl group or a C3-C6 alkynyl group; and R6 is in each occurrence independently a C1-C6 alkyl group, a C3-C6 alkenyl group or a C3-C6 alkynyl group; or R5 and R6 taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring. |
