The present invention provides a highly efficient oxidation process for alcohols using ruthenium complexes which are easy to produce, easy to handle and obtainable at relatively low cost as catalysts for dehydrogenative oxidation. The present invention relates to a method for producing a compound having a carbonyl group by dehydrogenating and oxidizing an alcohol, which uses a carbonyl ruthenium complex represented by the following general formula (1) as a catalyst: RuXY(CO)(L) (1) , In the general formula (1), X and Y may be the same or different from each other, and represent anionic ligands, and L represents a tridentate amine diphosphine ligand. |
