abstract | Disclosed herein are compositions and methods for treating oral surfaces with peracid-based benefit agents. The peracid benefit agents are useful for bleaching, whitening, disinfecting, depigmenting, deodorizing, reducing or removing biofilms, and combinations thereof, of oral surfaces. The peracid is enzymatically prepared from a carboxylate substrate in the presence of a peroxygen source using CE-7 carbohydrate esterases (perhydrolase) with perhydrolytic activity. A fusion protein comprising a perhydrolase enzyme linked directly or through an optional linker to a peptide component having affinity for the oral cavity surface can be used to target the perhydrolytic activity to the oral cavity surface. |
