abstract The invention relates to an additive for reducing PM2.5 emission of a diesel engine and application of the additive. The additive is one or two of tert-butyl ketone peroxide (the molecular formula is (CH3)3COOC(CH3)(OH)R) or di-tert-butyl ketone peroxide (the molecular formula is ((CH3)3COO)2C(CH3)R). The application of the additive is as follows: the additive is added into diesel, wherein the additive content relative to the diesel is 300 to 3000 ppm. According to the invention, the limitation of the prior art is overcome, so that the PM2.5 emission of the diesel engine is obviously reduced; ash is not produced in the combustion process of the diesel containing the additive, so abrasion of the diesel engine is avoided; the peroxide composition and the diesel have excellent cooperative performance; and in addition, the reaction temperature of the peroxide is mild, the process is simple, the product is easily mixed with the diesel, and high practicability is achieved.
