abstract | Silicone resins with a weight average molecular weight of at least 5000 g/mol and polydispersity of @65 are prepared by hydrolyzing and condensing: (A) silicon-bonded alkoxylated and optionally hydroxylated silicone resin intermediate(s), (C) a basic or acidic catalyst or mixture thereof which is not completely self-neutralizing, (D) water, and (E) in the presence of an aliphatic carboxylic ester as the sole process solvent, with the provisos that I) alcohol eliminated in the reaction is removed from the reaction mixture by distillation, II) the catalyst (C) is deactivated by thermal treatment or neutralization, and III) a portion of (E) remains in the final product. |
