abstract The invention relates to a water-based drilling fluid treatment agent in the chemical engineering field, and concretely relates to a high temperature resistance and viscosity reduction agent for a water-based drilling fluid. The viscosity reduction agent is a dual-component mixture comprising a first component and a second component, the first component is a binary or ternary copolymer prepared through using acrylic acid, 2-acrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid and maleic anhydride as monomers, the second component is polyamine salt prepared through using one or more of dimethylamine, ethanolamine, diethanolamine, triethanolamine and ethanediamine and epichlorohydrin, and the mass ratio of the first component to the second component is 55-85%:15-45%. The viscosity reduction agent prepared in the invention has a high temperature resistance, and can be used for the viscosity reduction in the well drilling and cementing processes of various water-based drilling fluids.
