In the process for producing a base glass material, the temperature of SiCl4 which is a raw-material gas is regulated to 100 C or higher to grow fine glass particles to an average outer diameter of 90 nm or more in a flame from a burner for producing fine glass particles, before the fine glass particles are deposited on a starting glass rod (13). |
