| abstract |
A method for producing a product comprising a glycerol ketal of ethyl levulinate or a propylene glycol ketal of ethyl levulinate comprising reacting glycerol or propylene glycol with ethyl levulinate over a homogeneous or heterogeneous catalyst React in the reactor system in the presence of the system. The ethyl levulinate and glycerin or propylene glycol are heated to remove water, polyols and excess ethyl levulinate. The excess ethyl levulinate and polyol are recycled back to the reactor. said product is distilled in a specific manner and optionally treated by means of a stabilizer or acid substance removal bed in order to obtain a composition comprising glycerol ketal of ethyl levulinate or propylene glycol ketal of ethyl levulinate, wherein the composition comprises less than or equal to about 2 wt % contaminants. |
