A method for producing a Bi type sialon which has a firing step of firing a material powder and which is represented by general formula, Si6-zAlzOzN8-z: Eu. The material powder has an Al content of 0.3-1.2 mass%, an O content of 0.15-1 mass%, an O/Al molar ratio of 0.9-1.3, a Si content of 58-60 mass%, a N content of 37-40 mass%, a N/Si molar ratio of 1.25-1.45, and an Eu content of 0.3-0.7 mass%. The firing step is a step in which the material powder is fired in a temperature range of 1850-2050 DEG C in a nitriding atmosphere, and the Bi type sialon produced indicates 0.280=x=0.340 and 0.630=y=0.675 in CIE xy chromaticity coordinates. |
