abstract The invention relates to a method for preparing antimicrobials for fabric, in particular to a method for preparing novel quatemary ammonium salt copolymer/nanometer ZnO composite antimicrobials for fabric. Quatemary ammonium salt type polymer antimicrobials are unwashable, easy-elutable, short-term effective and harmful after eluted. Nanometer ZnO has excellent properties including: non-toxicity, lage specific surface area, anti-ultraviolet and antimicrobial performances, etc. The raw materials of the antimicrobials are vinyl monomers and nanometer ZnO. Quatemary ammonium salt copolymer, being synthesized by free radical polymerization in aqueous solution, is compounded with nanometer ZnO to prepare quatemary ammonium salt copolymer/nanometer ZnO composite which is applied to fabric finishing. The carboxyl of the composite can disperse the nanometer ZnO. The cooperation of the cation and nanometer ZnO gives the composite organic and inorganic antibacterial property which enables the fabric to be antibacterial and anti-ultraviolet to some extent.
