abstract The invention relates to a liquid-crystal compound which is usable as a base for injections. The invention provides an amphipathic compound represented by general formula (I), wherein X and Y each represents a hydrogen atom or X and Y in cooperation represent an oxygen atom, n is an integer of 0-2, m is 1 or 2, and R represents a hydrophilic group formed by removing one hydroxy group from any compound selected from a group consisting of glycerol, erythritol, pentaerythritol, diglycerol, triglycerol, xylose, sorbitol, ascorbic acid, glucose, galactose, mannose, dipentaerythritol, maltose, mannitol, and xylitol. The invention also provides a base for injections and a depot preparation both comprising the amphipathic compound.
