abstract The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of polymers, wherein cyclic (alk)acryloyl carbonates of the formula (4) are introduced into the polymer chain during polymerization by ring-opening polymerization: wherein R1 and R2 are independently hydrogen, methyl or ethyl. Preferably the polymer is an (alk)acryl polycarbonate such that at least one first monomeric cyclic (alk)acryl carbonate has formula (4). The (alk)acryloyl polyesters can be modified and used in biological devices.
