titleOfInvention | Functionalized triplet emitters in electroluminescent devices |
abstract | The present invention relates to organometallic complexes for optoelectronic and sensory devices and their use in such optoelectronic and sensory devices. The organometallic complex (triplet emitter) of the present invention consists of a metal center and a chelating ligand. At least one such chelating ligand contains an aromatic or fused aromatic ring. These ligands are each covalently substituted with at least one, preferably two, charge transfer groups (ctg). Metal centers can additionally be chelated by parasite ligands. The presence of two ctgs in each ligand leads to different advantages - especially for applications in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) - compared to complexes known in the art; - the charge transfer unit facilitates the transfer of holes and/or electrons to the molecular center, and allow efficient excited forms directly on the emitter complex. -The presence of CTGs on the respective ligands provides good protection from interactions with the environment. As a result, emission quenching is greatly reduced, resulting in materials with high emission quantum yields. - The presence of ctg on the respective ligands accelerates the separation between the emitting nuclei of different molecules and thus reduces unwanted quenching through triplet-triplet annihilation or self-quenching effects. - The complexes of the invention have high solubility in many organic solvents and are therefore very suitable for wet chemical processes. |
