abstract | Novel organic compounds comprising ligands containing boron-nitrogen heterocycles are provided. The compound comprises a ligand L having a structure of formula I, wherein A and B can represent a 5-membered or 6-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring; X 1 is selected from carbon and nitrogen; X 2 and X 3 are independently selected from carbon, nitrogen and Boron; B is a boron-aza ring; R 1 and R 2 represent monosubstituted, disubstituted, trisubstituted or tetrasubstituted; R 1 and R 2 are independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, amino, alkenyl , alkynyl, aralkyl, aryl, and heteroaryl; and the ligand L coordinates to a metal M having an atomic number greater than 40. In particular, the compound is a metal complex comprising an azaalkylboron-containing ligand. The compounds are useful in organic light emitting devices to provide devices with improved photophysical and electronic properties. Formula I. |
