titleOfInvention | ESD protection device and manufacturing method thereof |
abstract | Provided is an ESD protection device, wherein discharge-starting voltage and peak voltage can be made to be low, and characteristics thereof do not deteriorate even when static electricity is applied thereto repeatedly. The ESD protection device is provided with: a ceramic base material (1); a pair of opposing electrodes (2a, 2b) arranged on the surface of or inside the ceramic base material; and a discharge-assisting electrode film (3) that is arranged so as to connect the pair of opposing electrodes. The discharge-assisting electrode film consists of a material containing metal particles, and a glass covering the metal particles, as main constituents thereof. After providing an electrode paste, comprising glass-coated metal particles having a weight-increasing rate of 3-15% when maintained at 400 DEG C for two hours in air, a resin binder, and solvent, so as to have the pair of opposing electrodes (2a, 2b) mutually connected, the discharge-assisting electrode film (3) is formed by conducting firing at a temperature of 600 DEG C or higher, at a softening point that is higher than the softening point of the glass used in the glass-coated metal particles, and at a temperature that does not exceed the "softening point" + 200 DEG C. |
