abstract | Provided is a liquid crystal display apparatus in which transmission light not only in a front direction but also in an oblique direction is reduced in a black display state. A liquid crystal display apparatus comprises first and second polarizers, and a liquid crystal cell arranged between the first and second polarizers, wherein the liquid crystal cell comprises first and second substrates (provided that the first substrate is located closer to the first polarizer and the second substrate is located closer to the second polarizer), a liquid crystal layer arranged between the first and second substrates, a color filter layer arranged on the inner surface of the first substrate, and an in-cell polarization layer arranged between the color filter layer and the liquid crystal layer. The absorption axis of the first polarizer is parallel with the absorption axis of the polarization layer, and the sum of the absolute values of in-plane retardations (Re) of all the layers arranged between the polarization layer and the first polarizer is not more than 10 nm, and the sum of the absolute values of the retardations (Rth) in the thickness direction is not more than 15 nm. |
