The disclosed steel for a case hardening treatment, which is subjected to a carburization treatment in the temperature range of 800-900 DEG C, has a chemical composition that includes, in terms of mass%, 0.10-0.60% C, 0.01-2.50% Si, 0.20-2.00% Mn, 0.0001-0.10% S, 2.00-5.00% Cr, 0.001-0.50% Al, 0.0020-0.020% N, 0.001-0.050% P and 0.0001-0.0030% O, with the remainder being Fe and unavoidable impurities, wherein the total content of Cr, Si and Mn in terms of mass% satisfies the equation 2,0 <= Cr + Si + Mn <= 8.0. |
