abstract | Disclosed is a polyesterimide having a repeating unit represented by formula (3), which has a high glass transition temperature, a linear expansion coefficient equal to or lower than that of a metal foil, an extremely low water absorption, an extremely low coefficient of moisture-absorption expansion, excellent flame retardancy, a relatively low elastic modulus and sufficient film toughness at the same time. The polyesterimide is useful as a material for an FPC substrate, a COF substrate or a TAB substrate, especially as a material for an FPC substrate (a base film). Also disclosed is a method for producing the polyesterimide. (In the formula, R represents a phenyl group; R1 represents an alkyl group having 1-6 carbon atoms or an alkoxy group having 1-6 carbon atoms; each n independently represents a number of 0-4, each a independently represents a number of 0-4, and m represents an integer of 2-4, provided that all n's are not 0 at the same time and 0 = n + a = 4 in each phenylene group; and X represents a divalent aromatic group and/or an aliphatic group.) |
