abstract The present invention discloses liquid crystal compounds of negative dielectric constant anisotropy useful as liquid crystal display materials, and mixed liquid crystal materials using such compounds. Such new nematic liquid crystal compounds are of negative dielectric constant anisotropy, the structures of which can be represented by the general formula (1); wherein, R1 represents hydrogen atom or a linear alkyl group having 1-8 carbon atoms or a linear alkenyl group having 2-8 carbon atoms, or R1 represents an alkoxy group or an alkenyloxy group formed by replacing one or two nonadjacent CH2 groups in the aforementioned linear alkyl or alkenyl group with oxygen atom, wherein 0-4 hydrogen atoms in the group may be substituted by fluorine; R2 represents hydrogen atom or a linear alkyl group having 1-8 carbon atoms, wherein 0-4 hydrogen atoms in the group may be substituted by fluorine; ring A represents phenylene or 1,4-cyclohexylene, 0-4 hydrogen atoms in the phenylene ring may be substituted by fluorine when ring A is phenylene; n represents 1-2, m represents 0-2.
