titleOfInvention | Use of longitudinally displaced nanoscale electrodes for voltage sensing of biomolecules and other analytes in fluidic channels |
abstract | Devices and methods for detecting an analyte are provided. An apparatus (100) for voltage sensing of an analyte may comprise: a fluid channel (105) defined in the substrate; a pair of sensing electrodes (115A, 115B) located in the fluid channel for sensing a voltage in the fluid channel; and a pair of electromotive force electrodes (110, 110') for applying an electrical potential along the fluid channel. The sensing electrode pair may include a first sensing electrode and a second sensing electrode located at two separate locations along a length of the fluid channel, and the electromotive force electrode pair may be located at a first end and a second end of the fluid channel. The fluidic channel may comprise a nanochannel or a microchannel. The method for detecting an analyte may comprise the steps of: disposing an analyte in a fluid channel; applying an electrical potential along the fluidic channel to generate an electrophoretic force in the fluidic channel, thereby displacing the analyte from the first end of the fluidic channel to the second end of the fluidic channel; a voltage signal between a pair of sensing electrodes located in a fluidic channel is measured as an analyte moves past the pair of sensing electrodes. |
