abstract | Colloidal silica particles having an average primary-particle diameter of 5-40 nm in which the average content of at least one polyvalent metal element (M) selected from the group consisting of iron, aluminum, zinc, zirconium, titanium, tin, and lead is 0.001-0.02 in terms of M/Si molar proportion. The content of the polyvalent metal element (M) present in an outermost layer of the colloidal particles is 0-0.003 atoms per nm2 of the surface area of the colloidal particles. Also provided are: a silica sol which is a dispersion of the colloidal particles in an organic solvent; a silica sol which is a dispersion of the colloidal particles in a polymerizable compound; and a silica sol which is a dispersion of the colloidal particles in a dicarboxylic anhydride. The colloidal silica particles, when dispersed in an organic compound, are prevented from causing the decomposition, discoloration, etc. of the organic compound by the action of the solid acid present on the surface of the particles. The silica sols, even when incorporated into a resin, do not cause the decomposition, discoloration, etc. of the resin and have satisfactory dispersion stability in the dispersion medium. |
