Provided are an oxycobalt hydroxide particulate powder and a lithium cobaltate particulate powder, having high density and evenly-grown crystals. The oxycobalt hydroxide particulate powder is characterized in that the average secondary particle size (D50) is from 3.0 to 25.0 [mu]m, the BET specific surface area (BET) is from 0.1 to 20.0 m2/g, the tap density (TD) is from 1.0 to 3.5 g/cm3, and the average secondary particle size (D50) and the BET specific surface area (BET) fulfill relation (1). The lithium cobaltate particulate powder is characterized by having average secondary particle size (D50) from 15.0 to 25.0 [mu]m, BET specific surface area (BET) from 0.10 to 0.30 m2/g, and compressed density (CD 2.5 t/cm2) from 3.65 to 4.00 g/cm3. The oxycobalt hydroxide particulate powder is useful as a precursor of a cathode active material (lithium cobaltate particulate powder) used in a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, and the lithium cobaltate particulate powder is useful as a cathode active material used in a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery. |
