abstract |
The invention relates to a host system and method for protecting data stored in the storage device. the host system includes: an interface configured to perform communication with the storage device; a controller communicated to the interface, wherein the controller can be operated to send request generating cipher key to the storage device, the request includes a cipher key reference name, wherein a cipher key independent to its reference name is generated in the storage device, the cipher key can only be accessed in the storage device; the cipher key is sent to the storage device to store one or more policies suitable for using the cipher key, the one or more policies grant different permissions entities with various authorities for requesting the storage device to sue the cipher key to encipher and/or decipher the data in the storage device, wherein, the request sent to the storage device can be granted or can be rejected based on one or more policies, and the request includes reference name to use the cipher key to respectively encipher and/or decipher the data written in or read out from the storage device. |
