abstract The invention discloses a cage-cleavable siloxane resin having a vinyl, alkyl, phenyl, (meth)acryloyl or aryl group or an oxirane ring, which is compatible with other resin and is controlled in molecular weight distribution and molecular structure. The invention also discloses a method for producing the cage-cleavable siloxane resin in high yield. A cage-cleavable siloxane compound can be produced by hydrolyzing at least one silicon compound represented by the general formula (1) in a non-polar solvent, a polar solvent or a mixture thereof in the presence of a basic catalyst and also partially condensing the compound, re-condensing the resulting polycondensation product in a non-polar solvent in the presence of a basic catalyst, and equilibrating the re-condensed product with a disiloxane compound. R<1>SiX3 (1) wherein R<1> represents a vinyl, alkyl, phenyl, (meth)acryloyl or aryl group or a group having an oxirane ring; X represents a hydroxylable group selected from an alkoxy group, a halogen atom and a hydroxyl group.
