Disclosed is a light-emitting device material containing a pyrene compound represented by the general formula (1) below, which enables to obtain a light-emitting device having high efficiency and excellent durability. Also disclosed is a light-emitting device using such a light-emitting device material. (In the formula below, R<1>-R<17> may be the same as or different from one another and represent one selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen, an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, a heterocyclic group, an alkoxy group, an alkylthio group, an arylether group, an aryl thioether group, an aryl group, a heteroaryl group, an amino group, a silyl group, -P(=O)R<18>R<19> and a ring structure formed together with an adjacent substituent, with R<18> and R<19> being an aryl group or a heteroaryl group; n represents an integer of 1-2; and X represents a single bond, an arylene group or a heteroarylene group. In this connection, one of R<10>-R<17> is used for the connection with X. |
