abstract The invention relates to a preparation method of 2,2-diethoxyethanol and derivatives thereof, comprising the following steps: using halogenated acetaldehyde diethyl acetal as raw material and carrying out alkaline hydrolysis to generate the 2,2-diethoxyethanol in water-water-soluble organic solvent mixed systems in the presence of alkali. The invention also provides a method for producing hydroxy-acetaldehyde dimers, comprising the following steps: a) obtaining the 2,2-diethoxyethanol by the preparation method; b) carrying out acid catalysis to the 2,2-diethoxyethanol obtained in step a) to form the hydroxy-acetaldehyde dimers. The invention also relates to a method for producing 2,2-diethoxyethanol ester, comprising the following steps: a) obtaining the 2,2-diethoxyethanol by the preparation method; b) carrying out reaction of the 2,2-diethoxyethanol or salts thereof and carboxylic acid or carboxylic acid derivatives or halogenated hydrocarbon to generate the 2,2-diethoxyethanol ester. The preparation method of the 2,2-diethoxyethanol and derivatives thereof shortens reaction time, reduces reaction pressure and enables the raw materials to react sufficiently.
