abstract The invention provides an extremely useful novel beta-galactoside-alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase which has an optimum pH for reaction in the neutral to alkaline range, and a nucleic acid encoding the sialyltransferase. The invention also provides a vector containing the nucleic acid encoding the sialyltransferase, a host cell transformed with the vector, and further a method for producing recombinant beta-galactoside-alpha-2,6-sialyltransferase.
