abstract Novel dioxetane compounds having a cationically polymerizable oxetane group that excel in compatibility with liquid crystal compounds and non-liquid-crystal compounds. A composition containing any of the dioxetane compounds and a cationically polymerizable compound is subjected to liquid crystal alignment and subsequent polymerization so as to fix the liquid crystal alignment, thereby providing an optical film excelling in liquid crystal alignment retaining capability and mechanical strength and providing a liquid crystal display unit fitted with the optical film.
