titleOfInvention | Stretchy items with antimicrobial coating |
abstract | A first aspect of the invention relates to a surface treatment of elastic articles, such as medical gloves, comprising an aqueous coating formulation and an antimicrobial agent contained in the coating of the substantially powder-free composition. A second aspect of the present invention relates to aqueous coating formulations for elastic articles such as gloves, which include at least one non-volatile water-soluble antimicrobial agent in a sustained release matrix comprising a hydrophilic polymer and Mixture of hydrophobic components. Desirable conditions for a sustained-release matrix/mixture include: compatibility with antimicrobial agents, formation of antimicrobial agent reservoirs, coating film flexibility, and lower water solubility than antimicrobial agents. A third aspect of the present invention relates to a method of treating medical gloves comprising dipping, spraying, roller coating or other methods of applying a composition to the surface of the glove to impart durable antimicrobial activity to the medical glove. |
