Disclosed are: a positive charge control agent which has good compatibility with a binder resin and good dispersibility, can prevent tinting, is excellent in charging properties, can reduce the content of a low-boiling-point organic compound and has no sensible odor; a method for production of the positive charge control agent; and an electrographic toner which is excellent in charging properties and coloring properties and is reduced in the formation of any VOC. The positive charge control agent comprises a copolymer prepared by copolymerizing a styrene monomer (M1), a (meth)acrylic acid alkyl ester monomer (M2) and a quaternary ammonium salt (M3) of a dialkylaminoalkyl (meth)acrylate monomer, wherein the copolymer has the following monomer ratio (mass %): (M1)+(M2):(M3) = 99.5:0.5 to 65:35, and at least one terminus of the copolymer is RCOO- or RO- (wherein R represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, an aralkyl group or an alicyclic group). |
