abstract The present invention relates to an organic electroluminescent element (organic EL element) which improves the luminous efficiency of the element, sufficiently ensures driving stability, and has a simple structure, and a compound used therefor. This organic electroluminescent element is an organic electroluminescent element having a light-emitting layer between an anode and a cathode laminated on a substrate, and the light-emitting layer contains a phosphorescent dopant and a compound for an organic electroluminescent element as a host. A material, wherein the compound for an organic electroluminescence device has two or more indolecarbazole skeletons. The indolecarbazole compound used therein can be exemplified by compounds represented by the following formulae.
