titleOfInvention Polarization degree controlled depolarizer preparation method
abstract The invention discloses a fabrication method of a depolarizer for polarization degree control. The performance of the depolarizer is mainly decided by the lengths of two polarization maintaining optical fibers and a 45-DEG included angle between birefringence main axes of the polarization maintaining optical fibers. The fabrication method comprises the following steps of: setting an inversion threshold DOPOut and a target threshold DOPFlag on the basis of a polarization degree of a polarization DOP0 maintaining fiber fusion splicer aligned to 45 DEG, so that the motor of the fusion splicer rotates to DOP larger than DOPOut; reversing the motor by a step length theta1, recording the minimal DOP value DOPMin and a position StepMin, comparing DOPMin with the DOPFlag, and stopping to fuse the two optical fiber segments if DOPMin is less than DOPFlag; or else, keeping the motor rotating until DOP is larger than DOPOut, directly driving the motor of the fusion splicer to the StepMin position, further driving the motor to rotate by a small step length theta2 due to the backlash influence, stopping until DOP is less than MAX(DOPMin, MINFlag), and fusing the two optical fiber segments. The invention is applicable to the depolarizers constituted by the homogeneous or heterogeneous polarization maintaining optical fibers.
