A stand-alone hydrogen production system capable of producing hydrogen-containing gas at low temperature, capable of being operated only by electric energy supplied from a fuel cell, and not requiring large electric energy. A stand-alone hydrogen production system having at least a hydrogen production cell (10) constituting a hydrogen production device, auxiliary machines (16, 17) for operating the hydrogen production device, and a fuel cell (33) for supplying electric energy to the auxiliary machines(16, 17), wherein the hydrogen production device is a device for producing hydrogen-containing gas by decomposition of organic matter-containing fuel and having a partition film (11), a fuel electrode (12) provided on one side of the partition film (11), a means for supplying fuel that contains organic matter and water to the fuel electrode (12), an oxidizing electrode (14) provided on the other side of the partition film (11), a means for supplying an oxidizing agent to the oxidizing agent (14), and a means for causing the hydrogen-containing gas to be produced on the fuel electrode (12) side and taking out the gas. |
