titleOfInvention Optical compensating board and projecting liquid crystal dispaying device therewith
abstract Provided is an optical compensator which increases the contrast of a projection liquid crystal device and also realizes high display quality for a long period and to apply it to the projection liquid crystal display device. The optical compensator 20 is constituted by laminating a transparent film 21 of <=10% in transmissivity at a wavelength of 380 nm and <=2% in reflection factor at a wavelength of 550 nm on a surface coming into contact with air, an optical compensating film formed by coating a base material film 31 with a liquid crystal compound layer 32, and a transparent glass plate 23. Two optical compensating films can be laminated and in this case, they are arranged having their alignment axes almost at right angles to each other and also laminated so that surfaces of base material films 31 and 41 on the opposite sides from surfaces coated with liquid crystal compound layers 32 and 42 are put one over the other. This optical compensator 20 is arranged on one surface side of a liquid crystal cell 7 and the transparent film 21 is arranged on the side of the liquid crystal cell 7 to constitute the projection liquid crystal display device.
