titleOfInvention Process for the production of capsules with a matrix shell
abstract A method for producing capsules with a matrix shell that encloses an oil core is described, the method comprising the following steps: a. providing in a first chamber a nucleating emulsion of an aqueous dispersed phase in an oil phase, the aqueous dispersed phase comprising water and a gelation inducing agent, the emulsion also containing a first surfactant; b. providing an aqueous solution in a second chamber, the aqueous solution containing water and a second surfactant; wherein the first chamber and the second chamber are fluidly connected by one or more channels, preferably by microchannels; the method further comprising c. passing the nucleating emulsion of step a. from the first chamber through the one or more channels into the second chamber to form a dispersion of the nucleating emulsion of step a. in the aqueous solution from step b. to build; i.e. mixing the in step c. formed dispersion with an aqueous shell-forming solution, the aqueous shell-forming solution containing water and a water-soluble matrix-forming agent; wherein the gelation-inducing agent and the matrix-forming agent are configured such that they are capable of undergoing a chemical reaction with one another to form a water-insoluble matrix shell; the method further comprising: e. reacting the gelation-inducing agent and the matrix-forming agent in the step c. formed dispersion to form capsules of a water-insoluble matrix shell enclosing an oil core.
