titleOfInvention Medium for use in chemical toilets and septic tanks - made by cultivating aq. peat suspension inoculated iron and sulphur bacteria
abstract Biological suspension of soln. for use in chemical toilets and septic tanks is made inoculating an aq. suspension of peat with sulphur- and/or iron bacteria and cultivating the suspension. Mg sulphate, Fe sulphate, trace elements, esp. Ni, Mn and Co sulphate, and spiral, green or blue algae may be added to the suspension. USE/ADVANTAGE - The agents have good odour-binding activity for use, e.g., in chemical toilets in aircraft, boats, camping, etc., and are less environmentally harmful than the formaldehyde and quat. ammonium cpds. used previously. The iron bacteria (Crenothrix polyspore) builds the action of the FeSO4; the sulphur bacteria (Thiocyctis violacea) inhibit the formation of mercaptans; and the humic acids in the peat have an additional odour binding action. The algae assist in breaking down faeces in heavily soiled waters.
