titleOfInvention Polyester tyre cord filaments - are impregnated with adhesive to bond to rubber before hot air treatment and single-stage drawing
abstract The prepd. polyester filament material to give adhesion with rubber, for use as tyre cords, is initially treated with an application of 0.05-0.20 wt.% of the adhesive prepn. agent against the wt. of the polyester filament material as it is spun at a rate of at least 3200 m/min.. The polyester filament is treated with hot air in a second stage. In a third stage, the filament material is unwound, passed through a single-stage drawing action and then rewound. Pref. the spun polyester has a boiling shrinkage of 20%. The hot air is applied to the wound polyester bobbin at 50-90 deg. C. The drawing action uses a cold feed unit, a stretching pin, a heater and a cold drawing appts.. Pref. the prepd. adhesive polyester filament has a tensile strength (Ft) of 60-70 cN/tex and a thermal shrinkage (TST) at 190 deg. C of 3.5% related to the length of the unshrunk yarn after tempering under a wt. of 0.4 cN/dtex at 235 deg. C for 60 sec., and measurement under a tension of 0.01 cN/tex with a heating speed of 20 K/min.. The rubber adhesion (Pull) is 18-25 daN, the Appearance Note is 2.5-4.0 and it has a dimensional stability (DS) of more than 24000 cN2/tex2. The shear strength, after impregnation, is greater or at least as great as before impregnation. ADVANTAGE - The method gives a cost-effective mfg. process for tyre cord material, with good adhesion to rubber and with a high dimensional stability.
