titleOfInvention | 4,4-di:nitro-stilbene 2,2-di:sulphonic acid or salt prodn. |
abstract | In the prodn. of 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulphonic acid and its salts of formula (I) where M = H, an alkali metal or ammonium cation; by oxidn. of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulphonic acid or its salts (II), the novelty is that oxidn. is carried out in liquid, anhydrous NH3, its alkyl derivs. opt. in the presence of water and/or mixts. of these in the presence of strong bases. Oxidn. is pref. carried out in a mixt. of NH3 and water. The base consists of alkali(ne earth) hydroxide(s) and/or alcoholate(s) or strongly basic ion exchanger and is dissolved in a protic solvent, pref. a low mol. alcohol and/or water. Catalysts may also be used, pref. heavy metal salts, (hydr)oxides or organic cpds., phase transfer catalysts or crown ethers. It is pref. to use a mixt. of 1-10, esp. 3-6 pts. NH3 and/or alkyl deriv. and opt. water per pt. (II). If water is present, the amt. of NH3 or alkyl deriv. in the mixt. with water is 50-99, esp. 60-80%. Oxidn. is carried out with pure O2, O2+ inert gas or air at -33 to +50, pref. -15 to +30 deg.C.. |
