abstract | The use is claimed of (E)-4,8-dimethyl-1,3,7-nonatriene (I) as perfuming or flavouring ingredient. Pref. (I) is used in the form of an isomeric mixt. contg. at least 50 wt.% (E) isomer. Also claimed are perfuming or flavouring compsns. contg. (I) foodstuffs or beverages contg. (I) and tobacco contg. (I). When (I) is used as a perfuming ingredient in a concentrated compsn., its concn. is pref. 2-10, even 20 or 30 wt.% of the compsn. When (I) is used as a flavouring ingredient, its amt. in the finished prod. may be 10-100 ppm. by wt. In the prepn., 13.4 g K tert. butylate are added at 10-15 deg.C to a soln. of 42.89 of methyltriphenylphosphonium bromide in 300 ml DMSO. After stirring at 15-20 deg.C for 1 hr. 15.2 g citral (isomeric mixt. E/2 2:1) are added for 30 mins. at 10-15 deg.C. The reaction mixt. is brought to room temp. and after 1 hr., poured into ice/water and extracted with penlane from which the prod. was recovered, namely 4,8-dimethyl-1,3,7-nonatriene as an E/2 isomeric mixt. (2:1). USE - Perfume ingredient. |
