titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of thioxanthones
abstract Optionally substituted thioxanthones are prepared by reacting the corresponding o,o'-dihalobenzophenone with a metal sulphide or metal hydrosulphide and carrying out the reaction in a two-phase system in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst. Substituted thioxanthones are preferably prepared of the formula <IMAGE> in which R1 and R2 independently of one another denote hydrogen, alkyl(C1-4), alkoxy(C1-12) or halogen, R3 denotes independently of one another alkyl(C1-4), R4 denotes independently of one another alkyl (C1-4), and n and m denote independently of one another zero, 1, 2 or 3. The thioxanthones are utilisable as photoinitiators.
