alpha -(3-Phenoxyphenoxy)alkanecarboxylic acid derivatives of the formula <IMAGE> in which A denotes the cyano or carboxyl group or denotes a carboxylic acid oxime ester, carboxylic acid ester, carboxylic acid thioester or carboxamide radical which is defined more closely in Claim 1, <<Hal>> denotes a halogen atom, n denotes zero or an integer from 1 to 3, X denotes hydrogen or the trifluoromethyl group, Y denotes hydrogen or the cyano group, Z denotes a halogen atom or the cyano group and R denotes hydrogen or C1-C8 alkyl have selective-herbicidal properties. In a method for the control of weeds in crops such as cereals, maize, rice, soybean and cotton, the areas to be protected are treated at application rates which preferably provide from 0.1 to 10.0 kilograms of active ingredient per hectare. The invention also relates to herbicides containing these derivatives as active ingredients. |
