titleOfInvention Reed for a musical instrument
abstract The reed (10) is composed of a base substance made of reed material with an upper surface (12) and a base surface (14). A thin coating (38) of a fine-grained material, such as metal powder suspended in a medium such as varnish, is applied on the tip (26) and along the lateral edges (28) and is allowed to penetrate the pores of the reed material. The central part (30) or main vibrator part is not coated. In this manner, the good properties of the reed material are retained and the reed is just as durable as a reed made of a synthetic material. <IMAGE>
